Fiber Optic connections offer higher networking speeds over longer distances with thinner tethers that also have much lower drag and weight than copper Ethernet cables. The Fiber Optic solution developed by Mantis Sub provides up to 4x underwater Gigabit Ethernet connections up to 5km/3Mi distance and consists of three parts:
1) A surface spool with integrated battery, Fiber Optic Media converter, and Ethernet slip-ring.
2) An underwater junction box with integrated battery, Fiber Optic Media converter and wet-mate connectors for Ethernet and Power.
3) The Fiber Optic tether (not included). Our recommended tether is 3.5mm (0.137”) thin, neutrally buoyant, and has a tensile strength of 750 lbs.
The whole system is completely self-contained including battery power supply. That makes it very easy to use: Simply plug the Ethernet connector ends into your underwater and surface device and turn it on. No other cables or equipment is required!
Both the Surface Spool and Underwater Junction Box can operate continuously for over two days on one charge. The Underwater Junction Box can even be used to power other underwater equipment with an underwater power cord (5-12V DC, 10W). And with the optional sensor upgrade, the underwater junction box records depth, temperature and other environmental data that you can monitor live.
